I don’t know of any statute of limitations, or of any provisions in Nigeria law systems, which serves as a prescriptive period, that is; of any law passed by a legislative body for that matter, which set the maximum time, after or within which legal proceedings may be initiated against anyone, who has committed the crimes of Terrorism.
Ordinarily, crimes do not expire, nor extinguished by effluxion of time, except otherwise provided by the law.
Criminal offenses, by their very nature, are classified as crimes against the public, the community, and State in general.
Terrorism usually leads to violent crimes, wanton killings and genocides.
I don’t know whether time runs against the Nigerian version of Terrorism laws.
Where on earth do they treat acts of terrorism as mere moral transgressions?
Crime does not rot, we were taught in school.
Which one is repentance again, in offense as heinous as terrorism?
This country will not cease to embarrass you.
This is exactly how we ended up with an intractable Bokoharam.
Human lives have just been reduced to mere statistics here.
Everyday, we’re even loosing counts of the number of causalities in the hands of deadly terrorists; yet we’re not “pushed” enough to act strongly against the terrorists.
Terrorism is regarded as the greatest evil of all times, and ranks topmost, all over the world.
But we’ve drastically lowered our standards for terrorists.
In Nigeria, lives are mere dispensables.
We’ve elevated terror to the levels of means to power, wealth and control of common resources.
Terror has now assumed the fundamental objectives and directives principles of state policies.
If terrorists can be forgiven on the grounds of effluxion of time, or on the basis of repentance, then, there’s absolutely no justification for keeping Evans the notorious kidnap king pin, since the last time, we were informed that he’s now showing full penitence and remorse for the serial crimes perpetrated by him and his cohorts.
Even if you want to stand for a terrorist, must it be done in such bracingly shameful manner?
